What is STEM Story?

STEM Story is TV show for PBS, that features profiles of female professionals in STEM careers who are doing meaningful work and changing the world. Why is this important? There aren’t enough women in STEM jobs. Women make us 48% of the US workforce but only represent 27% of the STEM professionals.

The problem

At age of 11 girls like math and science more than boys but by age 15 they lose interest. This means that we only have about four or five years to nurture girls’ passion before they turn their backs on these areas, potentially for good.

Studies have shown it’s much easier to imagine a career in STEM subjects if they see successful examples. Literally it is only when we see it that we realize we can be it.

Our solution

By introducing girls virtually to dozens of impressive women making a difference in the world in part because of their love for science, technology, engineering and math, we empower these girls to imagine what their lives will be like if they pursue their passions.
